Modified Extramedullary Referencing

Research in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders (2026 May 11) demonstrated that modified extramedullary femoral referencing is associated with improved femorotibial component alignment consistency and more stable mobile-bearing positional behavior in Oxford medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.

Technical Innovation:

Improved alignment consistency

Better mobile-bearing behavior

Enhanced long-term component survival

Robot-Assisted Surgery

Coronal Plane Alignment and Knee Phenotypes

Research in the Chinese Journal of Reparative and Reconstructive Surgery (2026 Jul 15) examined the impact of coronal plane alignment of knee phenotype alteration on short-term effectiveness in robot-assisted total knee arthroplasty.

Key Insights:

Robot assistance enables precise phenotype-specific alignment

Short-term outcomes improved with personalized alignment

Technology integration enhances surgical precision

Ankle Surgery Outcomes

Total Ankle Replacement vs. Ankle Fusion

Narrative Review (2023-2025 Data)

A comprehensive narrative review in EFORT Open Reviews (2026 Aug 1) analyzed the latest literature comparing total ankle replacement versus ankle fusion for end-stage ankle osteoarthritis.

Key Comparisons:

| Outcome Measure | Total Ankle Replacement | Ankle Fusion |
|----------------|------------------------|--------------|
| Range of motion | Preserved | Lost |
| Functional outcomes | Generally favorable | Good pain relief |
| Revision rates | Higher long-term | Lower |
| Adjacent joint disease | Lower incidence | Higher incidence |

Clinical Implication:

Patient selection remains critical

Activity level and age influence decision

Both procedures have defined indications

INCA Trial Protocol

The INCA trial compares a four-nerve block protocol versus adductor canal block plus local infiltration analgesia for primary total knee arthroplasty in two French private hospitals.

Study Protocol:

Design: Multicentre randomized controlled trial

Intervention A: Four-nerve block protocol

Intervention B: Adductor canal block + local infiltration analgesia

Setting: Two French private hospitals
