Notions: Documents and Pages

Documents and Pages are different notions. In Seed, documents are automatically turned into webpages, which can look confusing to people. Bea is proposing to change the wording to use 'Page' instead of 'Document'. I believe we first need to research the meaning of each notion before taking a drastic decision. Maybe we need both terms! What if a Webpage is a document with a web URL and a layout that you configure in the Preview Screen?

    Dynamic Webpages, Static Documents

Probably a commonality in the collective mental model is that webpages are dynamic and documents are static files. However, our idea of documents is moving away from the book metaphor and the page's prison. Documents should be living entities with different views and moving structures. This makes our Document Notion overlap with the notion of Web Pages.

    Definitions in the Web Context

      Web Page Layout:

The product of creating web pages has a different set of functionalities than our product. Also, it will always be a secondary proposition value as we are optmized for collaboration instead. Hopefully, one day we have them (probably not earlier than 2 years) although probably with AI and some integrations we could offer an interesting experience.

Opportunity to clarify the Notions in the Publish User Task

This Confirmation Box definitely gives the impression that you are publishing a Webpage and nothing to do with a document!

I think there might be an opportunity to explain the difference between a Seed Document and Webpage with the property of Location. Seed Documents live everywhere and they are Content Addressable. Seed Webpages are Seed Documents with a concrete location and default Layout?

Site Owners want Layouts for their Sites

Antonio from xlavapies is asking to automatically add sections to their news articles, i.e Further interesting documents or conversations. Are these layout web pages, or maybe not, they are just a property of our composability of documents, documents inside documents.
